It’s time to separate… time for homecoming… and time for conference play… It is unseasonable warm here in Illinois… most Friday night lights kick off were around 82 degrees… Whew!
Here’s our recap for conference play in our coverage area:

Crete-Monee 48, Rich East 12 
Crete-Monee knocks off conference foe Rich East 48-12
Rich East (1-4, 0-1) took an early 6-0 lead on a well-orchestrated seven-play, 83-yard drive, which concluded with Malik Ecford (3 of 9 passes for 90 yards) hit Robert Sanner on an 11-yard pass for the score at 7:17 of the first quarter. But, that was about it for the Rockets.
Isaiah Rucker and the offense took over. Rucker then demonstrated his QB talents on the afternoon in the victory by completing 14 of 16 passes for 337 yards and four touchdowns.
“There’s nothing wrong with short passes,” Rucker said with a smile. “I get a little itchy to throw it long. But we’re winning and that’s all that matters.”
On the ground, Da’Tuan Carter got into the endzone on two different occasions, runs of 23 and 3 yards. He finished the game with 71 yards on six carries.
Warriors’ defense held Rich East to 247 yards.
“I’m happy we won,” Crete-Monee coach John Konecki said. “We can play better. We have a lot of guys who can touch the ball and take it to the rack.”
Up next will be a first-place showdown Friday night between the Warriors and Rich Central (4-1, 2-0) in Olympia Fields. Get your popcorn ready….

Hillcrest soar over Titans
In front of a jammed packed crowd, Hillcrest defended their homecoming quest defending South Suburban Blue Tinley Park, 33 – 7. The humid conditions didn’t really play a role whatsoever in this game. Both teams came out with lots of energy which included three back-to-back penalties on the Hawks D for off-sides.
Once the nerves calmed, the Hawks attacked. Hawks score first and never looked back.
QB Rocky Griffin finished the game with two touchdown passes both to Nick Lindley. On the ground, Andre Smith scored twice from 5 and 30 yards, along with Dakari Smith, who also scored on a strong two-yard blast right before the half.
The visiting Titans (2-3, 1-2) got on the board with a 8yd pass from senior Ryan Zientara to 5’9″ David Morgan.
This was solid victory for Hillcrest (4-1, 2-1) as they begin to set the tone for the conference play.
St. Rita delivered a fantastic victory Friday night against Mount Carmel, 38-21, their cross-town rival and Catholic League foe behind the play of senior Chris Childers.
Childers made a one-handed catch on a pass from Jake Zylman. He took the ball 17 yards to the Caravan 1. Three plays later, David Gleaves ran it in for a score, sending the Mustangs on their way to victory.
Childers finished with 90 yards rushing and added a 24-yard touchdown reception for St. Rita (4-1, 1-1).
“The O-line does great, I just need to make better reads on my runs,” he said. “I need to be a little more patient.”
A couple bright spots for the Caravan was Alek Thomas, who rushed for 104 yards and Kyle Davis scored on an 84-yard run for Mount Carmel (3-2, 0-2).

Providence (3-2, 2-0): Caden Kalinowski winning TD pass to Jerell Wright with 1:48 remaining. Rice (1-4, 0-1): JayShon Means 60-yard punt return TD.
De La Salle 42, St. Francis 0
De La Salle (4-0, 1-0): Rob Simental 7 of 8, 215 yards, 4 TDs. Mike Coates 2 TD receptions.
Joliet Catholic 21, Marian Central 13

Richards 55, Reavis 7: Derek Flowers had seven carries for 138 yards and three TDs to guide Richards (3-2, 2-0 SSC Red).
Stagg 55, Thornridge 30: Greg Hoard piled up 243 yards rushing and two TDs for Stagg (4-1, 2-1 SWSC).

WARRIORS HOLD OFF CRUSADERS
Crete-Monee get a BIG win over Catholic League Blue Brother Rice, 33-25 behind the play of Josh Tomas. He scored on a pair of passes including a 50-yard bomb from Isaiah Rucker in the third. He finished the game with 7 catches for 143 yards.
“I know that I have to execute when my teammates are counting on me in key situations,” Tomas said. “(Quarterback Isaiah Rucker) and I put in a lot of time together, and I want to be that big-play guy for him.”
Quarterback Rucker finished 20 of 30 passing for 271 yards and four TDs including a wonderful connection with Tyler Mays for a 33-yard TD in the fourth that sealed their final score.
The Crusaders fought back as best they could as John Bean connected with Dylan Summers for a 77-yard TD and Bean ran in the 2-point conversion to cut the lead to 33-25 with 2:59 left. Bean finished the game going 7 of 12 passes for 134 yards and running eight times for 68 yards and a TD.
The Warriors (1-1), though, recovered the ensuing onside kick and ran out the clock.
OLYMPIANS FALL SHORT
St. Rita continued their winning ways knocking off visiting Rich Central 44-25. Senior quarterback Jake Zylman led the way with his play calling and arm, as he threw a pair of touchdown passes and rushed for another. On the ground, Dave Gleaves added two TDs, including one rushing and one receiving for the Mustangs (2-0).
The Olympians (1-1) grabbed some momentum at the end of the first half when Sean Tyler returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown. Tyler finished with 63 yards on 12 carries.
But that momentum ended as the Mustangs ran off 10 straight points including Chris Childers who scored on a short run and a successful field goal. Childers ended up with 79 yards on 18 carries.
Northern Illinois-recruit, Jyran Mitchell, scored twice on the ground. He finished the game with 78 yards on the ground and completed 15 of 26 passes for 137 yards.

Sandburg 23, Curie 20 (OT): Jake Monnett’s third field goal of the game boosted Sandburg (1-1).
Shepard 48, Fenton 12: Rishard Blake scored on runs of 78 and 3 yards to pace Shepard (2-0).

What a wonderful weekend for football in the Chicagoland area and many teams didn’t disappoint, while others are still trying to find their identity and a tough weekend for Southland Conference….

Tough weekend for Southland Conference continued Saturday as Rich East lost to visiting Tinley Park 45-32.
Junior quarterback Ryan Zientara sealed the game for the Titans (2-0) with an 87-yard touchdown run late in the contest. He also tossed three touchdown passes in the contest.
“I can’t do anything without the offensive line,” Zientara said. “I can’t make a pass, can’t make a run without them. They were great.”
Zientara finished the game going 11-for-18 for 227 yards and shared the touchdown love around to Justin Taylor on a 17-yarder, David Morgan on a 44-yarder and John Kopecky on a 63-yarder.
They also imposed their will on the ground behind junior running back Elijah Webster who ran for over 180 yards and two scores.
Rich East (1-1) did have some bright spots from running backs Tristan Page and Alexander Adams who combined to rush for over 350 yards and four scores. Page scored on a runs of 68 and 53 yards and Adams added TDs of 7 and 80 yards.
And what made this contest even more special was both schools honored Park Forest police officer Tim Jones, who sustained a gunshot wound to head during a suspected robbery in March. A 2009 Tinley Park graduate, Jones is recovering from the life-threatening injury. At halftime, Rich East athletic director Mike Laneve presented the Jones family with a check for $5,000.

St Rita gets on track…
On this gorgeous football evening, it was St. Rita from the start as they dominated the visiting Southland Conference team, Rich Central, 56-19, primarily on the ground but both sides of the ball scored in this contest.
The Mustangs (1-1) scored first after an interception of Jyran Mitchells’ pass, a wonderful long run by Jack Quinn then a short run 4 yard run by junior Jake Zylman. Zylman finished with game with well over 150 yards on the ground and four scores. He ran for three and passed for another score.
Rich Central (1-1) countered on the next possession tying the game at 7 up with a 16 yard pass from Mitchell to Sean Tyler. But as the opening sentence states, the Mustangs responded on their next possession marching down the field, 92 yards on 11 plays that concluded with a 2 yard run by Zylman for his second touchdown. He scored for the third time in the second half from 7 yards out.
The visiting Olympians didn’t play their best game nor did they give up. Junior quarterback Mitchell showed wonderful offensive leadership in the contest despite the final score. In the second quarter, he called a QB keeper and tricked the Mustangs defense, and streaked down the field for a 54 yard score – the extra point failed getting the team within 8, 21-13.
But that’s as close as they would get, as on the next possession, senior Shaun Rule, broke at least 4 tackles for the score from the 11 yard line right before the half.
The second half was no different as the Mustangs was clearly the better team even as Rich Central scored for the final time on their opening possession in the second half on a 73 yard, 6 play touchdown – Mitchell to Hammond – making the score 28 – 19.
Mustangs’ Rule scored again, and so did sophomore Jake Stefanski, and the defense got on the board as well when they recovered a fumble, and Mark Mondesir returned it 40 yards really putting the contest away. The home team scored one more time, right after a kickoff-fumble recovery and one play later, it was Zylman, who tossed a short pass to Mike McMcDevitt, putting the final score on the board.
Rich Central had one more opportunity to score as they marched down the field, got the ball deep in the Mustangs REDZONE, but Mitchell fumbled it into the endzone and it was recovered by the defense.

Crusaders cruise in victory Friday Night
After one week of play and lots of chatter over the summer, when you think of Brother Rice you think offense and Friday night didn’t let you down as the Crusaders (2-0) knock off tough-as-nails Crete-Monee (1-1) 61-44.
In this contest, the Warriors game plan was to limit the Illinois-recruit Ricky Smalling, in which they did, as he finished the contest with less than 60 yards, but they didn’t limit Xavian Valladay.
Senior running back Valladay rushed for over 260 yards and count them F-I-V-E touchdowns.
“I have to give it out to my O-line,” Valladay said being extremely humble. “They had a nice game and gave me room to run. I’m blessed to have scored five touchdowns.”
But believe it or not, the final score isn’t a good illustration of the game as it was high-scoring and close. Brother Rice put a lot of points on the board in the first half, 35, but the visiting Warriors fought back.
A late 1-yard TD run by Kevin Pate and a 9-yard touchdown by Xavier Ledet with 1:58 to go to close within 52-44. But Valladay, sealed the deal with his fifth score with 1:41 to go.
Lost in all of this, Pate, also scored five touchdowns — three rushing and two receiving.
Crete-Monee quarterback Isaiah Rucker, a 6-5 junior, showed off his powerful right arm. Rucker completed 30 of 53 passes for over 420 yards and three TDs.
NOTE: The 105 combined points were the most in Brother Rice history.
Up next for Brother is Aurora Christian Friday night; Crete-Monee will play West Lafayette.

Hillcrest soar during week 2…
When you think of Hillcrest, you immediately think of basketball… but this football team is balling!!!!
The Hawks soar over Oak Lawn Friday night 28-6 behind the fantastic play of receiver Marcus Garrett, who caught three touchdown passes in the first half Friday in the win.
“I really think I can be that player for this team that makes the big plays out there,” Garrett said .”I just came out focused and ready to play hard on every play.”
His coach, former NFL cornerback, Marquice Cole, gets to see him up-close and personal as well as on some one-on-one drills thinks the world of his play.
“We all know what Marcus can do,” Cole said. “For us, it’s more about making sure Marcus knows what he can do. I’ll play corner on him in practice. We challenge him during the week to go above and beyond, because he’s that type of player.”
He caught a 9-yard TD from James Lipscomb (4-for-8 passing, 62 yards; 7 carries, 42 yards). Then, after the Hawks recovered an onside kick, he caught a 45-yarder from Lipscomb on the next play from scrimmage. He added a 2-point conversion catch to extend the lead to 16-0.
Garrett’s third TD came on a 31-yard pass from RonRecus Griffin with 1:05 left in the first half.
Oak Lawn got on the board with 2:05 left in the third quarter on a 10-yard TD run from Jabari Clark (14 carries, 54 yards) and got into the Hawks’ red zone with a chance to get within one score early in the fourth.
However, Hillcrest’s Jalen Jenkins stopped Spartans quarterback Kyle McNamara for a two-yard loss on fourth-and-1 from the Hawks’ 14.
“We definitely have some things to clean up,” Cole said. “I was happy with the way they overcame the adversity.”
Hillcrest will be traveling to TF South next Friday night; Oak Lawn will play at Argo
