2012 NCAA Top 10 Poll

Top 10 Poll

August 30, 2012

1. Florida State
I am shooting for my 2nd National Champ pick in well, a lot of years… I would pick Boise State but I’ll go a little outside of the popular opinion here… In short, these guys have lots of experience including 17 starters returning and 8 lettermen back this year. Be sure to keep an eye on their defense – as D always championships

2. Oklahoma
Another well oiled team who are stacked… The bottom line with the Sooners is if they can run the table, they don’t have to play in a tough conference title game which heightens their chances of getting to the National Title game.

3. USC
Back from suspension…. These are ready to show the world they can win without off-field trickery…. To prove as much QB 1 Barkley returned to school including 15 other starters, and they recruited some of the top players in the country. This team is built for a BCS birth but can they stand toe-to-toe against conference foes Oregon and Stanford

4. LSU
Coaches have them ranked number 1, and overall I don’t disagree, but it’s just something about this team, at the time of my writing that doesn’t pass the sniff test despite having 13 starters returning, top ranked running back, o-line, a heck of a defensive presence. It’s always tough to NOT put a SEC team on top consider the power of the conference, but see, that’s why I think the Tigers will fall with a loss during the season and/or in the conference championship – they play Bama before December.

5. Alabama
Again tough not to move Bama up before LSU or even USC… but since they play both Arkansas and LSU, well, they probably will lose one of those games… thus, not ranking high for us.  But no doubt about it, they will be in a BCS game… battle proven and ready to dominate.

6. Oregon

7. Texas

8. Georgia

9. Wisconsin

10. Florida

Our Apology for Sports

Posted on August 27, 2012. Filed under: Sporting News, Sports Business | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , |

August 2012

“Hello, I’m Prez Ro, this is Amateur Sports News Network. I love sports… America loves sports. But in sports, as in life, we must hold ourselves accountable. And so today… tonight… this very moment… I apologize to sports lovers for media’s  failure – I’m referring to the failure of the pure ability to just report what happens on the field of play, not barking out our personal, non-factual based opinions first…

More specifically, I’m referring to our lack of ability to successfully inform and broaden the scope of sports to our audience at large. Let me be clear that I don’t apologize on behalf of all broadcast journalists, nor do all broadcast journalists owe an apology. I’m speaking totally for myself, Prez Ro. I recognize that I too was drawn closer to the light of opinionated sports journalism in order to spark debate, trigger web traffic, which generates cash, as well as grasp attention – wanted and unwanted. I have recognized that on some occasions I may misdirected your attention to delusions… to what if’s… and made you form your own opinion without creating substance and facts.

The reason our sports industry is failing isn’t a mystery – we all want the ratings… to be the top-dog… and of course, we all want to be FIRST.

Olympic Distraction about Gabby Douglas

What came first… Gold or Hair?

August 7, 2012

After U.S. gymnast Gabby Douglas made history by becoming the first African-American to win the all-around Olympic gold, the moment was both overwhelming and unbelievable. Douglas put on a show, from start to finish, beating Russia’s Victoria Komova and Aliya Mustafina (bronze) and fellow American Aly Raisman who finished with the same score as Mustafina, but missed the bronze due to a tie-breaker rule that adds the top three of four event scores.

Douglas became the fourth U.S. gymnast to capture the coveted all-around title, following Mary Lou Retton (1984), Carly Patterson (2004) and Nastia Liukin (2008). Douglas’ win came two days after the Americans won the team gold, further underscoring the program’s dominance. An American woman has now won the all-around title at the last three Olympics, marking the first time a women’s program has achieved this feat since the Soviets (1952-60).

But the topic shifted to a ton of e-chatter after the 16-year-old Olympian sported a gelled-down ponytail – much like the hair styles of her fellow gymnasts – black folks on social media outlets lit on fire demonstrating their keyboard muscles with comments from both men and women, complaining that her ‘do looked unkempt.

And it’s so disconcerting that she (Douglas) even had to respond to this hair nonsense, saying what we’ve all been saying: What is the big deal? According to USA Today, the teenage Olympian said, “I just simply gelled it back, put some clips in it and put it in a bun. Are you kidding me? I just made history. And you’re focusing on my hair?”

2012 IL Best HS Football Team

Posted on August 22, 2012. Filed under: Football, Sporting News | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , |

Who’s our 2012 Illinois High School Number 1 football team?

August 20, 2012

The age old question is asked about Illinois High School Football and answered by our team….

This time of the year many people are curious about which high school football team is the best in Illinois. While we have seen many of the teams in our coverage area, I have not seen some of the other statewide contenders. However, like anyone, we can certainly offer an opinion on the teams we have seen, read about and are familiar with so far this year.

NOTE: This is based on our coverage area.

10. Thornton
Impact Player: Jalen Banks is actually one of the most experienced players in the state, having played varsity football since he arrived at Thornton as a freshman in 2009.
Biggest Issue for 2012: Battled test – but can they play together against steep competition?

9. Lemont
Impact Player: OT Ethan Pocic
Biggest Issue for 2012? Can the inexperienced offensive skills develop fast enough.

8. Crete
Impact Player: WR LaQuon Treadwell
Biggest Issue for 2012? Outside of the Southland, can they standup in the Class 6A playoffs?

7. Marist
Impact Player: TE Nic Weishar
Biggest Issue for 2012: Can anyone standup on defense?

6. Lincoln-Way East
Impact Player: QB Tommy Fuessel
Biggest Issue for 2012? Moving into 2012 season strong – leaving the 2011 season in the past.

5. St Rita
Impact Player (s): Offensive line
Biggest Issue for 2012?
Steady play at QB1.

For the remaining  TOP 4 teams….
