Who’s the hot team and players to watch this season?

December 2017

PrezRo
compiled by Prez Ro
follow back at @PrezRo365

We have compiled our list and here is how it plays out…

VAC365-TPOSBuilding Men & Women via Athletics

1. MORGAN PARK: Phenom Nimari Burnett moved to California, but the Mustangs are still loaded. They have the state’s best senior, Ayo Dosunmu, and the best sophomore, Peoria Manual transfer Adam Miller. Tamell Pearson, a 6-9 senior, had a terrific summer and will be the primary post threat.

2. FENWICK: Sophomore DJ Steward was a sensation last season. He’s back and surrounded by a focused, talented group of seniors: AJ Nixon, Billy Bruce, 6-4 Mike O’Laughlin and Sam Daniels. Junior Damari Nixon, a 6-1 guard, had an excellent summer. Size could be an issue, but expect the Friars to mount a serious challenge for the Class 4A title.

3. BOLINGBROOK: Junior Tyler Cochran was one of the big eye-openers on the summer circuit. He’s part of an impressive guard trio including junior Joseph Yesufu and senior Kaleb Thornton. The Raiders lost a lot of size and scoring. They’ll be fast and confident but will need to find rebounding.

4. ST. RITA: The Mustangs don’t have a breakout superstar, but they have all the right pieces. Senior guard and leading scorer Jordan Matthews returns. Sophomore guard Joel Watts can play and there is plenty of size with 6-6 Jeremiah Oden, 6-8 Cam Bartman and 6-5 Landen Gladney.

5. WEST AURORA: Most everyone returns from team that lost to Bolingbrook in the sectional semifinals last season. Camron Donatlan is a four-year varsity star, 6-4 senior Jared Crutcher is underrated. Junior point guard Traevon Brown transferred in from East Aurora and will be a major contributor.

BONUS: Lincoln-Way East, Leo, Bloom, Hillcrest, Joliet Central and Joliet West.

2017 IHSA Girls BBall Teams to Watch

Who should you watch out for this season?

November 2017

PrezRo
compiled by Prez Ro
follow back at @PrezRo365

1. Homewood-Flossmoor (23-3): Even after losing seven, but there are many leaders in waiting. Keep an eye out for Senior point guard Aireal Dickson, Arianna Garry-Bell, Kaitlin Lee, Zarrea Coleman and sophomore Imani Mitchell bring more backcourt speed. Whew… should be tough!!!!

2. Marist (28-5): Just like H-F, RedHawks graduated a lots of talent, but have an all-conference pick in senior point guard Ally Corcoran as a leader on both ends of the court. Juniors Stef Schied, Abby Callahan and McKenna Kallianis are all proven shooters. Guard Sydney Affolter should be one of the area’s top freshmen.

3. Mother McAuley (22-8): Six players who started games last season including point guard Tara O’Malley has been the leading scorer since her freshman year. Senior Vanessa Gavin is a tough defender. Junior Grace Hynes is the definition of explosive, but can also step back and shoot the three. Senior Kelly Gallagher and juniors Lauren Ramsey and Hannah Swiatek add experience.

4. Lincoln-Way East (19-11): Coach Jim Martin has a lot of experience to work with in his 17th and final season. Senior guard Carolyn Waleski has great instincts, and holds the school record for steals in a game with 11. Senior forward Lauren Hunter is hard to handle under the basket. Senior guard Delani Grayer was the first off the bench last season. Junior guard Katchie Savic was an impact player after Christmas.

5. Argo (22-7): Division I recruit senior Chatori Tyler returns at forward after averaging 22 points. Junior point guard Tadriana Heard is a two-time all-conference player who’s is also being courted by big colleges. Senior forward Shannon Wilbourne is a nice addition after three years at Queen of Peace.

https://i1.wp.com/www.amateursports365.com/images/RobinsonRibs-MAIN.jpg

6. Marian Catholic (18-14): The Spartans are young, but experienced, with four girls who have started 20-plus varsity games. Senior guard Carmen Jackson, a Hampton recruit, will have some tall targets underneath in 6-0 junior Shannan Mitchell and 6-1 sophomore Kennedy Harrell. Sophomore guard Kaylen Evans will help fill the backcourt needs.

7. Morgan Park (11-17): The Mustangs, who overcame discipline issues to advance to the Class 3A Elite Eight, will regroup under new coach Joshua Brown. They return speedy junior point guard Destiny Hall and 6-1 shooting guard Jordan Aikens. Back with the program is 6-0 senior guard Kolby Underwood, who sat out last season. A newcomer to watch is junior Charisma Robinson.

8. Crete-Monee (14-12): The defending Southland Athletic champions return four seniors, headed by all-conference center Shamarre Hale. At 6-2, she is a dominator in the middle. Forward Ariel Henry is an aggressive rebounder, while Ceairra Smith runs the point. Guard Arriyon Phillips will be counted on to step up on offense.

9. Lincoln-Way West (24-6): One thing the Warriors lack is height. One thing they have in abundance is long-distance shooting. Junior guard Tara Hastings and sophomore guard Taylor Gugliuzza return after combining for 103 3-pointers. Sophomore Guard Sydney Swanberg is yet a third threat from beyond the arc. Tara Gugliuzza will follow her older sister as a freshman on the varsity.

10. Lemont (19-9): The Indians won the South Suburban Blue title last season, and return two of the key cogs in senior guards Sarah Knoepfle and Emma Bozue. Between them, the duo averaged 17 points. The frontcourt will have senior leadership in Mairead Ruane and Claudia Sikora.

Sports Outlooks for New Rules and Procedures

January 2, 2017

PrezRo
compiled by Prez Ro
follow back at @PrezRo365

VAC365-TPOS

Building Men and Women via Athletics

Here a list of suggestions we have compiled for new Rules and / or procedures that we think would improve sports near and far.

baseball2016
MLB: Speed up the game by eliminating mound visits and multiple pitching changes and consider the electronic proposal HBO Real Sports aired Tuesday, September 27, 2017.
NCAA: N/A
High School: schedule games in a cluster (or same location) especially for conference play and monitor scheduling around graduation season where a students doesn’t have to weigh the odds of a State finals contest or participate in graduation ceremony.

basketball
NBA: Whenever a play is being reviewed, teams must go to a neutral corner of the floor or even opposite of their bench. Teams can’t receive a fake timeout. Also hire a true third (or fourth official) to speed up replays or questionable calls
NCAA: Get rid of one and done!!! If an athlete is so-called ready to go pro… let them – bye bye! But if you sign a letter of intent, it’s good for three years like football. This way, those that think they are pro ready can go… but those that go to college, you can build a solid program around these students, be in somewhat control of your destiny and job security, and the athletes can polish up on their athletic skills. More to come on this one…
High School: Modify and better manage revenue generated tournaments where big name corporations aren’t making mega dollars off the back of so-called student-athletes who receive nothing but exposure (wink wink).

football_icon_small1
NFL: Modify replays… hire a true review official at every game that works hand in hand with television broadcast. This official reviews the same stuff we see on TV, communicates the ruling down to the field all while the fans in the stands see the entire process live on the jumbo-trons…. This will definitely speed up the game and give the fans pure interaction to the game.
NCAA: Modify the scheduling… ALL top 20 (or 26, must be even) teams from the season before are opens up a slot on their schedule that the NCAA owns which in part they (NCAA governing body) makes teams play an out of conference foe so we can try our best to remove the statement “this team is undefeated but they didn’t play anyone…”
High School: Make officials take fitness exams and be of how can we say physical appearance. Too often, officials are not in shape enough to keep up with the movement of today’s game. If a team runs a hurry up and is moving the ball, they should not be penalized by an out-of-shape official who can’t keep up.

TracknField2015-blue
High School: monitor scheduling around graduation season where a students doesn’t have to weigh the odds of a State finals contest or participate in graduation ceremony.

Just thoughts… any additional ideas? Click here to share!
