Chicago – After traveling over 2,000 miles from Santa Ana, California to Chicago West Side…. the West coast powerhouse displayed why they are nationally ranked as they defeated Marian Catholic 58-46.

The Monarchs were led by senior center M.J. Cage, an Oregon-recruit, who had 15 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, plenty of dunks and a smothering defensive presence. He is also the son of 15-year former NBA player Michael Cage.

Marian Catholic trailed 18-16 early in the second quarter before Mater Dei’s “pressed” which slowed the Spartans’ momentum and forced four straight turnovers and eight over Marian Catholic’s next 10 possessions to spark a 19-0 surge to seize a 37-19 lead and never looked back.

The Spartans were led by Austin Richie who knocked down 11 points, followed by teammate Taihr Smith, who added nine.

The Monarchs came in, handled their business and are headed back to the West Coast on Sunday.

“Is everyone else playing just one game too?” Mater Dei senior center M.J. Cage wondered.
